New Members Series: Making Sense of…

As political and social events unfold, we can identify trends, patterns, and the interconnected rise of authoritarian populism across the world. In an era of growing complexity, making sense of these shifts requires deeper political analysis and cultural criticism. Our sensemaking sessions aim to build collective understanding by selecting a key topic to explore—whether it’s the outcomes of elections across regions, the rise of tech oligarchs, or strategies for resisting authoritarianism and fostering democracies rooted in belonging. Each session will focus on developing a big-picture perspective, distilling key insights, and reflecting on their implications for aligned strategizing, coalition-building, and action. Co-facilitated by Míriam Juan-Torres and Evan Yoshimoto.

What to expect:

Each session will include a short presentation by a leading expert and/or practitioner on the topic, followed by a collective discussion of events we are trying to make sense of and piece together

blend of mindfulness practices, somatic exercises, and guided reflections to help participants navigate and process complex emotions surrounding current political events. Together, we will explore how to engage with politics in a way that fosters understanding, connection, and emotional well-being.
