Common Ground Collective A Community Supported by the Network Catalyzers Program 2025
The Common Ground Collective, led by Forum member David A Brown, is a movement-building initiative addressing the challenge of othering while fostering belonging and bridging across diverse groups. Rooted in the frameworks of othering and belonging, the program brings together participants from diverse racial, political, religious, economic, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds to engage in structured conversations that celebrate differences and illuminate common ground.
While the immediate challenge focuses on addressing food insecurity and systemic inequities through dialogue and advocacy, the larger challenge lies in sustaining the community after participants complete the Dining with Purpose and advocacy training. To address this, the program emphasizes creating a strong network of engaged members who remain connected through continued opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and collective action.
The target audience includes community members, donors, volunteers, and partners invested in building equitable systems. The desired outcomes include fostering a deep sense of belonging, building networks that bridge divides, and empowering participants to advocate for systemic change. Participants are equipped with actionable tools, including facilitation and DIY workbooks, to replicate the program and expand its reach.
By cultivating long-term connections and providing pathways for ongoing engagement, the Dining with Purpose community seeks to create lasting ripples of change that transform local, regional, and national landscapes while ensuring the movement’s sustainability. The initiative centers on a monthly afternoon tea at the community café, bringing together elders and younger generations to share life histories, memories, and knowledge of the land. By focusing on shared experiences—such as preserving schools, local businesses, and access to services—the project aims to build understanding and empathy, transcending political and cultural divides.
